2025 Emmy Awards Highlights
Star power, moving speeches, and a few surprises abound at the 2025 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, which captivated audiences around the globe. The following are a few of the night’s most noteworthy moments:
Youngest Emmy Winner Ever
One of the most notable moments was when 15-year-old Owen Cooper, star of Netflix‘s “Adolescence,” became the youngest male Emmy winner. Not only did he win for Supporting Actor in a Limited Series, but he was also surprised by actor Jake Gyllenhaal backstage, who gave him a ‘lucky duck’ token as encouragement before the show.
Big Wins for ‘The Studio’ and Seth Rogen
The satire “The Studio” swept the comedy categories, winning Best Comedy Series, directing, writing, and Lead Actor for Seth Rogen. This Emmy marked Rogen’s first win after nine nominations, and he joked, “I’ve never won anything in my life,” during his speech. With nine technical and guest awards as well, “The Studio” set a new record for most comedy wins in one year—beating last year’s favorite, “The Bear.” Jean Smart continued her streak by winning Lead Actress in a Comedy for the fourth season of “Hacks,” bringing her Emmy tally to seven.
Drama, Tears, and Diversity
“The Pitt,” HBO Max’s medical drama, pulled off a shock victory for Outstanding Drama Series, beating out favorites like “Severance” and “The White Lotus.” Its lead, Noah Wyle, landed his first Emmy after 26 years—he called the win “a dream.” Katherine LaNasa, also from “The Pitt,” took home Supporting Actress in Drama for her sharp and witty role.
Meanwhile, Tramell Tillman from “Severance” became the first Black man to win Supporting Actor in Drama at the Primetime Emmys, marking a milestone for representation.
Standout Limited Series Wins
“Adolescence” wasn’t just Owen Cooper’s triumph—it won Best Limited Series, Lead Actor for Stephen Graham, Lead Actress for Erin Doherty, Directing, and Writing. “The Penguin” also made headlines, especially when Cristin Milioti accepted her Lead Actress award with an emotional speech, sharing a little therapy note she’d scribbled down and professing her love for acting.
Variety and Reality
“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” continued its winning run in the scripted variety segment—its eighth straight win. “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” grabbed Best Live Variety Special, and “The Traitors” triumphed in reality competition.
