Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and model-actress Dhanashree Verma‘s divorce has been a topic of discussion for quite some time. Now, the latest court ruling has put an end to all speculations. On February 5, reports emerged that the couple had filed for divorce at the Family Court. However, no official confirmation was made at that time. Now, fresh updates reveal that the Mumbai High Court has stepped in to facilitate the divorce proceedings, confirming the alimony amount and eliminating the mandatory ‘cooling-off’ period.
Mumbai High Court’s Decision on the Divorce Case
According to a report by Bar & Bench, the family court had initially rejected Chahal and Dhanashree’s divorce petition due to certain legal factors. As a result, the couple approached the Mumbai High Court, requesting intervention. The case was heard by Justice Madhav Jamdar’s bench, which ordered the initiation of the divorce process.
One of the most significant decisions taken by the High Court was the removal of the six-month ‘cooling-off period,’ which is usually mandatory for divorce cases in India. The court took this step considering that Chahal and Dhanashree have been living separately for over two and a half years. In addition, keeping Chahal’s Indian Premier League (IPL) commitments in mind, the court instructed that the divorce decree be issued by Thursday, finalizing the separation process.
Alimony Settlement: How Much is Dhanashree Receiving?
At the time of filing the divorce petition, Yuzvendra Chahal had already agreed to pay an alimony of ₹4.75 crore to Dhanashree Verma. The Mumbai High Court has now approved this amount, ensuring a smooth mutual settlement between both parties.
As per sources, Chahal has already transferred ₹2.37 crore to Dhanashree as an initial settlement. The remaining amount will be paid upon the issuance of the official divorce decree. A court-appointed mediator has been assigned to oversee the financial transactions and ensure both parties fulfill their commitments.
Why Did the Family Court Reject the Divorce Initially?
Reports indicate that Chahal and Dhanashree initially filed for divorce in the Mumbai Family Court on February 5, 2025. In their petition, they requested an exemption from the mandatory six-month cooling-off period before the finalization of the divorce. Additionally, Chahal had proposed an alimony amount of ₹4.75 crore as part of the mutual agreement.
However, the family court did not approve their plea at that time. The rejection led the couple to escalate the matter to the Mumbai High Court, which has now ruled in their favor.
What’s Next for Chahal and Dhanashree?
With the court’s verdict, Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma’s marriage will be legally dissolved by Thursday. The couple, who had been married for several years, will officially part ways with mutual consent and a pre-decided settlement.
This decision allows Chahal to focus on his upcoming IPL season, while Dhanashree is expected to continue her work in the entertainment industry.
