Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela is always in the news — sometimes for her stunning photos, glamorous looks, and dance moves, and sometimes for her bold statements. This time, she has made a statement that has sparked a fresh controversy. Her recent comments about a temple in Badrinath Dham have angered the local priests and devotees.
So, what exactly happened? Let’s break it down.
What Did Urvashi Rautela Say?
A few days ago, Urvashi Rautela appeared in an interview with popular host Siddharth Kannan. During their conversation, Urvashi made a surprising claim. She said there’s a temple near Badrinath Dham named after her, where people come to offer flowers and prayers.
When Siddharth asked, “Wait, there’s a temple in your name?” — Urvashi confidently replied, “Yes, it’s my temple. In fact, I also wish to have a temple of mine in South India someday.”
This unexpected statement from Urvashi instantly grabbed attention on social media and quickly reached the ears of the local priest community in Badrinath.
How Did the Priests React?
The priests at Badrinath Dham did not take Urvashi’s claim lightly. They strongly condemned her statement, calling it “complete nonsense.”
One of the senior priests clarified that the temple she referred to is not dedicated to Urvashi Rautela. It is actually an ancient temple associated with Devi Sati, a revered goddess in Hindu mythology.
The priests explained that this temple is known as the Urvashi Temple but it has been named after a celestial nymph (Apsara) from Hindu mythology, not after the actress. The temple is considered one of the 108 Shakti Peethas and holds significant religious importance.
Priests Demand Action
Speaking to India Today, one of the priests said, “This is not her temple. Such claims are completely unacceptable, and the government should take strict action against people making such baseless statements.”
Amit Sati, the President of the Brahma Kapal Teerth Pujari Society, also condemned Urvashi’s comment. He said, “Such statements deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the devotees who visit Badrinath Dham every year. Urvashi Rautela must apologize for her irresponsible remark.”
About the Urvashi Temple
For those unfamiliar with the Urvashi Temple, it is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, specifically in Bamani Village, about one kilometer from Badrinath Dham.
Every year, thousands of pilgrims visiting the holy shrine of Badrinath make it a point to visit this temple as well. The temple has a rich mythological history and is believed to have connections with Devi Sati.
During the auspicious festival of Navratri, the temple holds special religious ceremonies and rituals. It’s an important spiritual site for many devotees, and locals hold it in high regard.
Urvashi Rautela’s Current Work
Amidst this controversy, Urvashi is busy promoting her new song ‘Sorry Bol’ from the upcoming film ‘Jatt‘ starring Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda.
The song has already gained massive popularity on YouTube, crossing over 26 million views in a short span of time. Despite the controversy, Urvashi’s professional career seems to be going strong.
Social Media Reaction
As expected, social media platforms quickly picked up on this controversy. While some of Urvashi’s fans defended her, claiming it might have been a misunderstanding, many netizens criticized the actress for her lack of awareness about religious places.
Twitter and Instagram users flooded comment sections, asking Urvashi to be more responsible while making public statements, especially about sensitive religious matters.
The Bigger Picture: Celebrities and Religious Remarks
This is not the first time a celebrity has found themselves in trouble for commenting on religious matters. In India, where religious sentiments are deeply rooted, any such statements often lead to public outcry and controversy.
Experts say celebrities must be extra cautious when talking about religion, temples, or sacred beliefs. Misleading claims not only hurt people’s feelings but also create unnecessary tension in society.

The recent controversy involving Urvashi Rautela and the Urvashi Temple in Badrinath Dham highlights the importance of verifying facts before making public statements.
The local priests’ reaction shows how much religious sentiments mean to people, especially in places like Badrinath, one of India’s most sacred pilgrimage sites.
As for Urvashi, whether she issues a public apology or not remains to be seen. But one thing is clear — celebrities need to handle such matters more sensitively in the future.
