Don’t refer to Mumbai as Bombay on your show
Kapil Sharma: Comedian and actor Kapil Sharma is currently on the radar of MNS. MNS Chitrapat Sena chief Amey Khopkar has given him a direct warning as a request. This is the issue of calling Mumbai ‘Bombay‘.
He has said that even after thirty years of the official naming of ‘Bombay’ as Mumbai, Bombay is still being mentioned frequently in Kapil’s show. In this regard, he has written a post by sharing a clip of Kapil Sharma’s show on his X (Twitter) account. ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’ is coming to the audience on the OTT platform Netflix. Celebrities appearing in this show and Kapil himself have often mentioned ‘Bombay’ instead of Mumbai.

‘Even after 30 years of Bombay being officially renamed Mumbai, the word Bombay is still being mentioned in Bollywood‘s ‘Kapil Sharma Show’ by celebrity guests, Delhi-based Rajya Sabha MPs, show anchors and many Hindi films. With the official approval of the Maharashtra government in 1995 and the central government in 1996, it has become Mumbai before Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata. However, a request is being given to respect this and a warning is being given,’ he said. It will be important to see whether Kapil or his team will respond to this.

Speaking to Zee 24 Hours on this issue, Amey Khopkar said, “Not only in Kapil Sharma’s show but also in Hindi films or web series on OTT platforms… Mumbai is being deliberately referred to as Bombay. This is the same thing that happens when people want to talk about Chennai or Bangalore. MNS has given a letter to Kapil’s team. If there is no change, MNS will go to the sets and protest and the shooting will be stopped. Kapil himself has been living in Mumbai for the last 15-17 years. But can’t he still name the city properly? Would it be okay if he was called Tapil instead of Kapil? We are not against him or Bollywood, but the city should be named Mumbai.”
