Ghoul (Netflix)
Bollywood audiences have always had a strong fascination for horror movies. Whenever a horror-thriller film is released, it usually performs well at the box office. However, in recent years, the OTT platform has taken over as the go-to entertainment source for viewers, especially after the pandemic. As audiences shifted their focus from theaters to streaming services, the craze for horror-thriller web series has significantly increased.
Recognizing this trend, filmmakers are now investing in high-quality horror content for OTT platforms. Some have even started releasing their films directly on streaming services, making horror-thriller series a huge hit among audiences.
Back in 2018, when the OTT craze was still growing, Netflix released one of the most spine-chilling horror-thriller web series – Ghoul. Starring Radhika Apte, Manav Kaul, Ratnabali Bhattacharjee, and Mahesh Balraj, this mini horror series was an instant hit.
What many people don’t know is that Ghoul was initially planned as a feature film. However, during the filming process, the scenes turned out to be so extensive that the makers decided to release it as a three-episode mini-series instead.
This change worked in favor of the show, as it allowed the story to build tension and create a truly terrifying atmosphere, keeping the audience hooked from start to finish.
Directed and written by Patrick Graham, Ghoul opens with a suspenseful narrative that immediately captures the viewer’s attention. The series is set in a military bunker where suspected terrorists are held captive. However, there’s something sinister and mysterious happening inside the bunker, leading to a series of shocking and horrifying events.
Radhika Apte plays the role of Nida Rahim, a military officer assigned to interrogate a high-profile prisoner. But as the story unfolds, the officers realize that they are not just dealing with a terrorist—there is something far more terrifying lurking in the shadows.
From the very first episode, Ghoul creates an intense sense of fear and paranoia. As the story progresses, it delivers shocking twists, supernatural horror elements, and a dark, eerie atmosphere that leaves the audience on edge.
Ever since its release in 2018, Ghoul has been praised for its gripping storytelling and eerie atmosphere. The series received a strong response from horror lovers and currently holds an IMDb rating of 7.0.
The unique blend of psychological horror, supernatural elements, and social commentary made it one of the most talked-about horror-thrillers on Netflix.
If you are a fan of dark and terrifying horror-thrillers, Ghoul is a must-watch. The mini-series is currently available for streaming on Netflix. However, be warned—this show is not for the faint-hearted. Watching it alone at night might just leave you sleepless for days!
If you love intense horror-thrillers, Ghoul is definitely worth watching. It offers a chilling experience, backed by a brilliant cast, eerie cinematography, and a gripping storyline. However, if you get scared easily, you might want to watch this series with the lights on—or better yet, not alone!
