Madhuri Dixit: Bollywood‘s hot girl Madhuri Dixit has always made the audience crazy with her beauty, acting and dancing. She has had many hit songs in her career, but the song ‘Choli Ke Pee Kya Hai‘ from the 1993 film ‘Khalnayak’ gained immense popularity and also created a big controversy.
Directed by Subhash Ghai, the film ‘Khalnayak’ starred Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff in the lead roles. Made with just Rs 4 crore, the film earned a whopping Rs 21 crore at the box office. But the most talked about song behind this success was ‘Choli Ke Pee Kya Hai’. Sung by Alka Yagnik and Ila Arun, this song became popular across the country as soon as it was released, but at the same time it was accused of obscenity.
Some social organizations launched a protest against the song, alleging that the lyrics of the song were derogatory and obscene. The matter reached the court. The complainants had demanded that the Censor Board remove the song from the film and recall all the cassettes that had been sold. However, the court dismissed the complaint, clarifying that there was no objectionable content in the song.
As the controversy continued even after the court’s decision, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray intervened at the time and publicly stated that there was nothing obscene in the song. After his stance, the protests stopped and the controversy subsided. However, Doordarshan and All India Radio had banned the song. The song was not played on both these media for some time.
This controversial song was remade in the film ‘Crew’, which was released in 2024. This new version, featuring Kareena Kapoor, Tabu and Kriti Sanon, received a good response from the audience. Despite the controversy, ban and criticism, the song ‘Choli Ke Pee Kya Hai’ is still considered one of the most popular and catchy songs in Bollywood.
