According to a report by the makers on Saturday, ‘Saiyaara’, starring debutant Ahaan Panday, has earned Rs 21.25 crore at the domestic box office on its first day. Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by YRF, the love story has received a good response from critics and audiences. It also stars Aneet Padda, who was seen in the online series ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ and the film ‘Salaam Venky’ starring Kajol.

One such footage from PVS Mall in Meerut is especially notable. It depicts young males swarming to the big screen when Ahaan performs the Saiyaara theme song in the film. Everyone took out their phones and taped the huge screen while singing along.

It hit theatres on Friday. “YRF and Mohit Suri’s ‘Saiyaara’ has made a historic debut in India by earning Rs 21.25 crore on its first day,” the production label said in a statement.

According to trade expert Taran Adarsh, the film grossed ₹21 crore on Friday, breaking several records. “There is no franchise power. There are no A-listers or prominent stars. No festival or holiday releases. There are no city tours, media interviews, or reel collaborations. Yet, Saiyaara, featuring novices, makes history. Yes, Saiyaara is the largest opening ever for a film starring novices.

Mohit Suri directs the film, which follows the narrative of Krish (Ahaan), an aspiring singer, and Vaani (Aneet), a lyricist who writes for Ahaan’s character.

“Despite their vastly different lifestyles, beliefs, and histories, Vaani and Krish are ideal partners. Will they comprehend the truth, despite their age and problems? The film’s summary reads: “They say flawed, imperfect people make for a perfect love story… and Saiyaara is about celebrating that one love story that is so deep, so pure, and so caring that it is completely unconditional.”

According to the movie makers, ‘Saiyaara’, which released on 8,000 screens, is the biggest opening day for a debutant film, the best opening of director Suri’s career and the highest opening day for a love story.

“All this was achieved without exposing the cast or using standard PR and marketing techniques, which means no interviews, no city visits, no reels, no impactful material and no exposure. “Simply the power of strong content marketed to an entire nation,” the statement said.
