KKR’s former team director, Joy Bhattacharjya, recalled an incident from a 2008 IPL match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and KKR at Wankhede Stadium. SRK attended the match in Mumbai, the city where he built his career and became a megastar. But what happened that day left him heartbroken.
Bhattacharjya revealed, “Shah Rukh wasn’t upset about KKR’s defeat; he was deeply hurt by how MI fans treated him in his own city. The same city that embraced him as a superstar now mocked him at the stadium.”
SRK’s Emotional Request to His Team
Renowned sports journalist Gautam Bhattacharya shared an emotional story about SRK before that crucial match. “He told his team, ‘In Mumbai, they call me King. I have never asked for anything from you all, but today, win this match for me.’” Unfortunately, KKR lost that game, and the defeat devastated Shah Rukh.
For the first time, he felt he had let his fans down. “In my profession, I always make sure I never disappoint my fans. But that day, I felt like I had failed them,” SRK admitted after the heartbreaking loss.
