TV actor Ashish Kapoor has been arrested on charges of rape. A woman has alleged that he sexually assaulted her in a bathroom at a house party in Delhi in the second week of August, police said.
TV actor Ashish Kapoor arrested on rape charges in Pune
DCP (North) Raja Banathia confirmed Kapoor’s arrest in Pune on Wednesday. After registering a case, the police traced the movements of the accused – first to Goa and then to Pune. Teams were sent to both places and he was finally arrested.
Police said that initially the victim had alleged that Kapoor, his friend (who had organised the house party) and two other unknown men had sexually assaulted her. A woman also claimed that she had been beaten up.
Later, the victim alleged that Kapoor alone had raped her. Police are going through legal process and the section of gang rape will soon be converted into a rape section, police said. The woman also alleged that the incident was videotaped, but police said that no video has been found in the investigation so far.
What exactly is the case?
According to the police, Kapoor had met the woman on Instagram. He later invited her to a party at a friend’s house, where the alleged incident took place. An FIR was filed on August 11 against Kapoor, his friend, his wife and two unknown men.
On August 18, the woman gave another statement, in which she only accused Kapoor and his friend of raping her and said that the woman beat her up.
On August 21, Kapoor’s friend and his wife applied for anticipatory bail, which was granted to them. The victim was present during the hearing, although she omitted the name of Kapoor’s friend from her statement.
The officers investigating the case said that according to CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, the victim and Kapoor had gone to the bathroom during the party. When they did not come out for a long time, his friend and other guests knocked on the door.
The police said that later they got into an argument, which reached the society gate. The victim alleged that at that time, Kapoor’s friend’s wife beat her up. The PCR call was made by the wife, the police also said.
